The certificate

Proof that actually holds up

Most volunteering certificates are discounted by admissions officers, and for a simple reason: the hours are self-reported. Anyone can claim them.

Ours work differently. Every session is checked in and out by the supervising adult who was there, so your record is built from sessions that provably happened. You can't add hours by hand, and neither can we.

  • Awarded after 10 verified sessions.
  • Shows your skill track, sessions delivered and total hours.
  • Carries a unique ID and verification link a university can check.
  • Describes real participation in a supervised mentorship programme.

How you become a mentor

We take vetting seriously, because families are trusting us with their children — and because it protects you too.

Apply with a parent

Your parent or guardian sets up the account and gives consent. You tell us your skill, your school year and when you're free.

Get verified

We check your identity and age, look at your school record, and speak to two references who aren't family.

Interview

A conversation with us, with your parent there. We're looking for judgement and patience, not perfect grades.

Safeguarding training

A short mandatory module on boundaries, appropriate conduct, and how to raise a concern. You'll need to pass it.

Trial session

One observed session with a SkillLynx founder present, so you're not thrown in on your own.

Start mentoring

Once two of us have approved your application, you're matched with a mentee and your sessions begin.

What you'd do

The role

  • 45-minute sessions, one mentee at a time.
  • At a venue agreed and confirmed in advance, and shared with both families before the session.
  • After school, never past 7pm, never during school hours.
  • Caps on how many sessions you take per day and per week, so mentoring doesn't get in the way of your own studies.
  • A short note after each session on what you covered and what to focus on next.
What we promise you

Your protection

  • You are never alone with a mentee. A responsible adult is present for every session.
  • You are never responsible for supervising the child — that's the adult's job, not yours.
  • You'll never be asked to collect, transport or take a mentee anywhere.
  • You can end a session at any point if you feel uncomfortable, without giving a reason — and you're still paid for it.
  • You can raise a concern with us directly, without going through the mentee's family.
Getting paid

AED 60 per session

Paid once the session is confirmed complete. Because mentors are under 18, payouts go to your parent or guardian's account, and they'll get a statement showing exactly which sessions were paid.

There's a one-time AED 150 enrollment fee to cover vetting and onboarding.

Reward tiers

We're planning a tiered recognition system so mentors who keep going are recognised for it, with a ranking based on sessions delivered.

Not live yet — but every session you deliver from day one counts toward it.

The first cohort is small on purpose. If you're 15–18, good at something, and patient with younger kids, we'd like to hear from you.
